Tissot Updates NBA Shot Clock

Tissot Updates NBA Shot Clock

News
As timing partner of the NBA, Tissot has given the shot clock a long due overhaul. For those of you not familiar with the came of basketball, the shot clock is a very important timekeeper. In 1954 the league introduced a rule that a team must hit the rim of the basket within 24 seconds after they gained possession of the ball. This was initially done to prevent the team that was ahead of keeping the ball in their possession for a long period of time, just to get to the end of the game and keep their lead. The result of this rule was a much faster and enticing game, but also required the need for a shot clock. It’s Time For A Time Tote

It’s Time For A Time Tote

News
A tote bag: we man probably only know the ones the women in out lives use. The same tote's we tend to borrow when we are going to a watch get-together, visit your watchmaker or want to swap out some of your collection at the bank. But although you are instantly recognized as a true fashionista, there must be a better, and safer way to transport your prized possessions. There is, and its called Time Tote. See Time Tote as the humvee of watch cases, add a generous dose of the Expendables and you are right on the money! It is the brainchild of Michael Sanders, who wanted his watches to be safe when the apocalypse starts. Of course I am kidding here, but when you see the results of…

Art Mécanique: When Knowledge And Passion Meet

Art Mécanique: When Knowledge And Passion Meet

News
Art Mécanique is yet another Kickstarter campaign that shows that there is still hope for this platform to launch affordable, well made, and innovative watches. Adriano and Frédéric, two veterans of the Swiss watch industry, where allegedly tired of their friends asking if they could get a watch from the brands they where working for at a discount, that they decided to create an affordable watch brand themselves.  Pleased to see that they took on that challenge because the result is sure a nice one! Their first model is called AM 16-01. We presume that the AM stands for Art Mécanique, but have no clue what the 16-01 means. Not that it matters, because we rather see a cool watch with a mysterious name, than a mysterious watch with a…

Mühle Launches The ProMare Lady

Mühle Launches The ProMare Lady

News
The Mühle ProMare is a very serious watch for those who lead an active life (and who doesn't in today's world?). Recently the watch company from Glashütte introduced the ProMare Chronograph, on which we reported here, but now its time for yet another addition to the line-up: the ProMare Lady. With a diameter of 39 mm and a height of 10.6 mm the ProMare Lady is a substantial ladies watch. But in a time where many ladies prefer to even wear men's watches, it makes absolute sense. Also because the ProMare wasn't designed to be a fashion statement, but more so to accompany a lady through everyday life. But that doesn't mean that the ProMare is completely without sense of style or fashion. The dial is white mother-of-pearl, which is…

Stowa Flies High With The Flieger Professional DIN

Stowa Flies High With The Flieger Professional DIN

News
Yes, Stowa has their new Flieger watch DIN-certified. Great news, but actually not even the best news! The best news is without a doubt the watch itself, which is a fresh look on that classic Flieger uhr. [caption id="attachment_1033" align="aligncenter" width="632"] Stowa's DIN certificate[/caption] That fresh look is not too surprising, because once again Stowa collaborated with Hartmut Esslinger, the founder of Frog design, to come up with something new. The Flieger Professional DIN shows an updated design from the original Flieger-uhren (of which Stowa was by the way one of the original manufacturers during WWII) with a very legible dial. The traditional solid triangle has been replaced with an arrow shape, indicating twelve o'clock. Although the bezel is still clearly readable, it has large indentations so it can be…

Spillo: When Speed Demon’s Make Watches

Spillo: When Speed Demon’s Make Watches

News
Steampunk: although I am not really a fan of the word, its the first thing that comes to mind when seeing a Spillo watch. It is also definitely the wrong word to describe the brand. Founders Marcello & Marco have a deep running passion for cars and bikes, but probably prefer high-octane fuel over steam power. Yet there watches seem to have been conceived in a garage rather than a pristine watchmakers workshop, and that is just the impression they want you to have. Their Speed Demon collection is nothing less but a statement. 45mm of steel that seemed to have come from Ferruccio Lamborghini's tractor factory. An optical illusion, because many of the Spillo watches come with a case and strap treated, so they have that vintage look to…

Colorful Summer Fun With Orient

Colorful Summer Fun With Orient

News
As Seiko's little brother, Orient always seems like a brand that can get away with just a bit more. A slightly bolder design, or a dash more color set the Orient apart. In some cases you can take that dash more color as an understatement. For the FER0200DW0 Orient unleashed a rainbow of colors! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtxKb6sCyyA FER0200DW0 is part of the Disk series by Orient. While the regular watches from the disk series simply have a disc that double as an hour hand, the FER0200DW0 has the same, yet here each hour has a color of its own. It's a remarkable simple solution, yet with a big effect! It is fun to see what just a little bit of color can do to a solid yet pretty straight forward designed watch.…

Mechanica Done Right!

Mechanica Done Right!

News
Kickstarter has become quite the nursery for new watches, yet some of them should not be on there. Most of the watches that fall in that category simply lack any form of quality and originality, but a few should not be on Kickstarter because they are simply too good for crowd funding. One that falls into this last category is Done watches! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6K9ANoi9vc Created in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Done is simply breathtaking! Yes, there is no other way to describe the brand. From the lushly curved case, to the stunning two tone-dial, and not to mention that movement.....The Done Mechanica is created by micro-technology engineer Thierry Clottu, a 10-year veteran of the Swiss watch industry, and that experience for sure shows in his work. The Done Mechanica is a watch to…

NTH Watches: Submariner Homage

NTH Watches: Submariner Homage

News
NTH watches? Never heard of? Yes, you have because it's by the makers of Lew & Huey. They wanted to do something different, and that is pay homage to some of the greatest watch designs out there. Clearly they couldn't use their Lew & Huey brand for that, so they started NTH. What does it stand for? There are a few explanations for that, but my favorite is the one that says that the letters stand for "Nod to History". Why? Because that is exactly what the brand is all about. [caption id="attachment_938" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Lume shot NTH Scorpène[/caption] Making a homage to a famous watch design usually means get in line, because many have done it…

Wood Wilder thinks of the future of our planet

News
Wood Wilder is a contemporary Danish lifestyle brand, founded in the beginning of 2015. The brand is owned by Sterndorff Trading, founded by Emil Sterndorff Urskov Rasmussen, and is based in Denmark. Now the interesting thing - Each product purchased, leads to the birth of a new tree, benefiting the future of our world! The Wood Wilder brand focuses on mindset, strength, attitude, willingness and manners. Whilst most brands at the time focus on cost efficiency and profits, their basic values are innovation, quality and above all customer satisfaction and protection of our planet. In order to be able to create their wooden products, they have been forced to join the process of deforestation, which by all means should not be acceptable. That is why they have taken the nice…
