Affordable at Auction: Sinn U1000 S

Affordable at Auction: Sinn U1000 S

Uncategorized
Sinn has a long reputation of making very technical watches. For many people their specifications are much more then they would ever need in their daily life, but that only adds to the appeal. A great example of such a Sinn is the U1000 S, that Sotheby's is auctioning on November 28th. It starts with the case which is crafted from the same steel as Germany makes its submarines. This material not only ensures that the watch can handle high pressure, but also that it is seawater resistant. For this particular model, Sinn coated the 44mm case black through a PVD-process. The result is a thin layer of titanium-aluminium-carbonitrite with a hardness of 2000 Vickers. That is strong enough not to wear off anytime soon and can take quite a…

Neonos Holland//01: Forged Carbon From Ireland

Neonos Holland//01: Forged Carbon From Ireland

Uncategorized
Let's first clear something up: it might seems very strange as an Irish brand to name your watch "Holland//01". However, this has nothing to do with the country that sometimes goes by the same name, but refers to John Philip Holland (1841 - 1914) a brilliant, Irish engineer that without any modesty can be seen as the "father of the modern submarine.". This all makes it a bit more logical why Neonos choose him to name their first watch after. [caption id="attachment_1412" align="aligncenter" width="632"] John Philip Holland (1841 - 1914)[/caption] That watch is 44mm of design delight. Neonos did an excellent job in transferring the work of Holland a century into the future. The front is crafted from forged carbon, the back from marine grade stainless steel with a diamond-like…

Stowa Prodiver Blue Limited; Their Ultimate Diver

Uncategorized
One picture, that is all Stowa gave us just before they closed shop to enjoy their summer vacation, but even one picture can tell more than a thousand words. Stowa announced that they are releasing the Prodiver Blue. To me blue is always one of my favorite colors for a divers watch. It must be the reference with the water, or that it looks just a bit more casual than black. With Stowa that blue is a deep dark blue, that area of the ocean where you first have to flick on your diver light. The history of Stowa's sports and diving watches dates back to 1963, and in 1969 they already made a very nice blue one! [caption id="attachment_1362" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Historic Stowa Seatime from 1969[/caption] But this limited…

Vortic Journeyman: Less Vintage, Equally Exciting

Vortic Journeyman: Less Vintage, Equally Exciting

Uncategorized
Vortic made quick work of their latest Kickstarter campaign for the Journeyman series. With this watch Vortic leaves its usual approach, but not its usual charm. For the first time is a Vortic not powered by restored pocket watch movements crafted decades ago by American watch manufacturers like Waltham, Hamilton, Elgin, and Illinois. Instead, the Journeyman series treats its owners to brand new movements, but equally special ones. Vortic is launching the Journeyman series on Kickstarter, with not one model, but three! The first two are housed in a 41mm titanium case in true Vortic style, with the crown at 12 o'clock. One is manual wind, while the other has an automatic movement. The movement that Vortic uses in these two Journeymen is one that doesn't come around that often,…

Traveling With No-Watch

Uncategorized
No-Watch is the brand by a company that makes watches for other watch brands and private parties that need a specific watch in larger volume. A few years ago they decided to start their own watch brand, which is No-Watch. They offer well made, quartz-powered watches in classic designs with a twist. There is always a fun aspect about a No-Watch, even when its not evident at first sight. The company is located in Greenwich, UK, and what is more appropriate because of this then to review one of their GMT watches? The Traveler CL1-1111 is exactly that. The Ronda caliber 515.24H, that powers the watch, offers a second timezone but No-Watch decided to give it a little twist. They printed the IATA airport codes of 24 different timezones on…

Ferro Watches: Displaying Time 911 Tachometer Style!

Ferro Watches: Displaying Time 911 Tachometer Style!

Uncategorized
At time of publishing there is just about 2 days left to get your Ferro watch through Kickstarter. The question is; should you? With its single hand configuration its original, but at the same time, this has been done before. What makes it unique is that it combines this single hand configuration with a dial inspired by Porsche tachometers. The result is quite stunning. Most watches that are inspired by car tachometers still have two hands, but the single hand configuration looks so much nicer. Also because Ferro made it like a thin needle in a contrasting color. This also helps greatly to tell the time with a great degree of precision. By making the case 44mm, not only the overall theme of the watch better comes together, but also…

Presenting the New Defakto Kinetik!

Uncategorized
How smart can you be as a brand? Defakto is one of the top nominees to be awarded the German Design Award 2016, but in the unlikely case that they don't win, they already have a plan B to get the German Design Award 2017! Meet the new Defakto Kinetik. Yet another watch from Defakto that shows that you can create magic with a minimalistic design. Straight lines and dashes; the magic of the Kinetik is based on nothing more. Not only does this result in a very readable dial, the interaction between the hands and the hour and minute indexes is so superb it is nothing short of art. Because of the way they align in relation to each other, the dial is always interesting to look at, like…

Tissot celebrates its connection to sports

Tissot celebrates its connection to sports

Uncategorized
While many brands don't know how loud to shout their connection to sports and athlete's, Tissot is rather modest with its connection to sport. Especially when you think that they are the Official timekeeper and partner of MotoGPTM, FIM World Superbike, basketball with FIBA, the Australian Football League AFL, RBS 6 Nations Rugby and the World Championships of cycling, fencing and ice hockey. Next to that they also have basketball player Tony Parker, as well as NASCAR-driver Danica Patrick amongst their ambassadors. But Tissot engagement with sports started already at the end of the 19th century, and by 1938 they where also the timekeeper of such events. To celebrate this rich history Tissot has setup a exhibition in one of Geneva's landmark, the Cité du Temps. The exhibition lasts until…
