Creating Your Own Watch With Initium

Creating Your Own Watch With Initium

News
How nice would it be to not only have a watch custom made, but custom make it yourself? Initium offers just that with their classes in their workshop in Le Noirmont, Switzerland. Under the skillful guidance of a watchmaker, you will assemble your own watch, after an introduction into mechanical watches and their inner workings. The watches are all mechanical and all variations of the famed ETA/Unitas calibers that were initially developed for pocket watches, but later on also used in larger wrist watches. Normally these movements came in different finishes. Interesting is that Initium seems to almost entirely bypass these standard versions of the movement completely and offers skeletonized versions in different variations and finishes. Of course, those who want a really classic watch can still get it in…

Tissot Heritage 1936 Mechanical: Affordable Vintage Homage

Tissot Heritage 1936 Mechanical: Affordable Vintage Homage

News
Tissot has a long-standing tradition of offering affordable, value for money watches. They combine this with a very long and rich history. The result are watches like the Heritage 1936, a mechanical watch made with modern technology yet containing an old soul. The 1930's was a time when people finally made the full transition from pocket watch to a wristwatch. The designs still had strong ties with the pocket watch, often with slim wire lugs mounted on the cases to accommodate the straps. This is exactly what Tissot has done as well for the 1936. It makes the watch look period correct, but don't expect a spring bar hidden under the strap, because this Tissot has fixed bars! Based on a pocket watch also means that the 1936 is a…

Estonia 1918: Celebrating With A Special Watch

News
Creating a watch is one thing, but doing so to commemorate the centennial anniversary of your country is a whole other thing. Yet that is exactly what Tõnis Leissoo did when he created the Wõitleja. This watch is limited to....you guessed it!...100 pieces! Such a celebration asks for a special watch and Leissoo seems to have no problem delivering just that! In a military inspired design, he created a watch that makes quite a visual impression. This is a direct reference to the war of independence that Estonia fought. Crafted from CuSn8 Bronze the case is 44mm in diameter and secured with special, titanium screws in all four corners. The craftsmanship on the case is of a ridiculous high level, and made in Estonia! Inside the watch ticks an upgraded…

Olivier Jonquet: Capitaine Of Your Heart

News
"The Captain Of Her Heart" was a smashing hit for Double, in 1985. It is also exactly the deepest desire of most watch brands to become the captain of your heart. And a watch that might succeed in that is Oliver Jonquet's Capitaine! The French brand Oliver Jonquet sounds very regal and old, yet their very first watch, the Elie, was first sold in 2014. Now they introduce the Capitaine, a bigger, bolder and some might say, better version of their first watch. The Capitaine is quite an eyecatcher, also thanks to the generous size of its cushion shaped case. With 43,5 x 43,5 mm you have a lot of real estate to do something with, and fortunately has Jonquet no problem to seize this opportunity! The Capitaine comes in…

Mechanica Done Right!

Mechanica Done Right!

News
Kickstarter has become quite the nursery for new watches, yet some of them should not be on there. Most of the watches that fall in that category simply lack any form of quality and originality, but a few should not be on Kickstarter because they are simply too good for crowd funding. One that falls into this last category is Done watches! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6K9ANoi9vc Created in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Done is simply breathtaking! Yes, there is no other way to describe the brand. From the lushly curved case, to the stunning two tone-dial, and not to mention that movement.....The Done Mechanica is created by micro-technology engineer Thierry Clottu, a 10-year veteran of the Swiss watch industry, and that experience for sure shows in his work. The Done Mechanica is a watch to…
