Vratislavia Conceptum Formmeister Sport

News, Uncategorized
The Formmeister Sport is the newest watch of the Vratislavia Conceptum, a young microbrand from Wrocław, Poland. The independent polish watchmaker has now several years of experience with limited series collections. The new watches are the successors of the Formmeister collection released in 2016 and it can be considered a good example of brand maturity.     The Formmeister Sport is an elegant wristwatch, despite the "Sport" nomenclature. It has the elements of the former collection but with several improvements. The 40mm diameter steel case has the same slender, Bauhaus design inspired case. The highly polished case has long, inward curved 20mm wide lugs. The delicate lines are enriched by the excellently polished round bezel. The case's proportions are perfect.     The case attractiveness is increased by the compelling steel crown. Shaped as a cone's trunk,…

Introducing the Edox Les Bemonts Shade of Time

News
Swiss watch brand Edox introduces a striking addition to its Les Bemonts collection - The Les Bemonts Automatic Shade of Time. Note that “Les Bémonts” is a pictoresque forest situated just a few meters from the EDOX factory, and that’s why the brand decided to use this name. The timepiece collection features classical design with pure and timeless lines and they are all equipped with Swiss movements; from the automatic chronograph to Ultra Slim quartz movement. The brand created in the 1884 by Christian Ruefli-Flury in Biel presents today a new addition to this collection. But did you know that in 1998 Edox engineers and watchmakers developed the world’s slimmest calendar watch, named “Les Bémonts Ultra Slim” collection ? The movement of this piece had a thickness of only 1.4…

Tissot Le Locle Automatic Cosc

News
Tissot is part of the SWATCH Group since 1983 and it has a history that goes back to 1853. The brand is based in the Swiss city of Le Locle, in the Neuchâtel area of the Jura Mountains. An important virtue of Tissot is that they produce mechanical watches with COSC chronometrie certification. The “Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres” is the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute and is responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland. Many watchmakers and watch brands use the COSC certification as an assurance for the quality of their watches. This is the case of the Tissot Le Locle Automatic Chronometre Ref. T0064083605700. It's sure that this piece is not a novelty but despite its age it always remains interesting. Let's have a…

Introducing the MAEN Classic Moonphase Watch

Introducing the MAEN Classic Moonphase Watch

News
Moon phases play an important role in the natural world, so it’s quite logical that they are also important when it comes to the watch market. A friend of mine recently told me: “My next watch will definitely be a moon phase watch” and then, it was exactly at the same moment that the guys from MAEN Watches contacted me. The brand was launched by two Dutch guys living in Stockholm and the brand name “MAEN” is taken from an old Dutch word meaning Moon and is inspired by the Dutch ship, Halve Maen (Half Moon), that discovered what is known today as New York City back in September 1609. So in tribute to this ship, the founders of the brand decided to debut their collection with a classic moon…

Elliot Brown Presents The Tyneham Watch

British brand Elliott Brown is now presenting their first automatic watch under the name of Tyneham. Like every Elliot Brown’s watch this one is the result of 1000’s of hours spent obsessing over the smallest details; refining, improving, inventing, and testing. Straits Foundry: Bypassing Crowdfunding

Straits Foundry: Bypassing Crowdfunding

News
We are in August and sure thing is that I never saw so many new brands in our industry than this year...and yet Straits Foundry, another new microbrand, will be launched next September. It is true that the industry is suffering this year, but paradoxically, we see more and more small brands making their big debut... Interesting thing is that they often provide original and quality products. Unlike many young brands, Straits Foundry will sell their watches directly on their website and without going through Kickstarter. When we see the success of brands launched on the crowdfunding platforms, we are entitled to ask if this is the right strategy. The team is based in Singapore, and they are a curious crew of engineers by training and explorers on the weekends.…

Maurice Lacroix Aikon: On the Road Back?

News
In 2013 and after 13 years of success the Swiss brand decided to stop the production of the Calypso which was their most iconic timepiece. Today, it’s time to launch something that could be as popular as this model, and what’s better than to take the inspiration from what had worked before: Meet the Aikon, hopefully Maurcie Lacroix newest (a)ikon-ic timepiece. The new Aikon collection consists of 3 models: Chronograph (44mm), Gents (42mm) and Ladies (35mm). Each of the three models shares a common identity with some design elements taken from the Calypso collection, that have made this one a classic timepiece since 1990. Even if the Pontos is Maurice Lacroix's flagship product in terms of mechanical watches, this new Aikon might take on this role for the quartz watches.…
