Interview Julien Caradant – Founder of Atelier Caradant

Interview
In recent days I had the chance to chat with Julien Caradant, founder of the watch brand Atelier Caradant. Today I'm happy to share this interview with you and to introduce you to his watches. The watches coming out of this workshop are very special, and that's why I wanted to know more about them. The dials are made of paper… Yes you read that right, they are made of paper.Julien, a young Frenchman from Saumur (a city in Maine-et-Loire, western France) explains his original concept to us in this interview. Here we go ! Could you tell us a bit about you and about your story with watches? I have always been passionate about mechanics and how things work (I dismantled a lot of things when I was young!).…

Hands-on – Biotic Formicidae

Hands-on – Biotic Formicidae

Review
During the last few days I had the chance to spend some time with the new BIOTIC Formicidae which is currently on Kickstarter. I'll be totally honest, at first I didn't understand why Ryan Lee (Founder of the brand) had chosen a name like this one. In France, we know the Biotic Phocea laboratories, which is known as the reference on the French market for pigments for medical dermo-pigmentation and permanent make-up. Suffice to say it has nothing to do with it… Biotic means “pertaining to life”. A biotic factor is any living thing that has an effect on an ecosystem. Biotic Watches has been co-founded by Stitches & Buckles in 2021, and is based in Singapore. There vision : Biotic Watches aims to study Nature and bring the beauty…

Hands-on – The Powerfull Feynman Fjord

Review
It's no secret I'm a fan of Feynman Timekeepers. You can read or reread my article of the One Eclipse, the Cove, and of course my interview with the creator of the brand right here. In 2021, I can't remember exactly when, Yong Keong Lim told me he was going to release a new collection. I'm honest with you, I was directly excited to be able to try this new creation. I was able to spend several weeks with the Fjord Magma and obviously this piece is a great success. The Case For the Feynman Fjord collection, the brand decided to use again the unique aesthetic of the Feynman Cove. This is a compressor styled case that honestly I really like. In terms of size, I think that every kind…

Interview Pierre Bernheim – Founder of 26 Spirits of Switzerland

Interview
A few weeks ago we had the chance to sit down and speak with Pierre Bernheim, Founder of 26 Spirits of Switzerland. Now, let's jump into the story of this young brand... Could you tell us a bit about you and about your story with watches? I’m 38 years old, married to a beautiful woman and father of 3 wonderful kids. Besides, I’m the grandson of Mr Raymond Weil who transmitted me his passion for watches and flying. After working in the family brand for 6 years, I launched my own watch brand 88 RUE DU RHONE in 2012. 10 years later, with 36 national markets opened, and more than 150’000 watches sold worldwide, the brand was acquired by a leading Chinese business group. Being a born entrepreneur, I could…

These last days I had the chance to speak with Mael Oberkampf, Founder of Timeless Swiss Watch. You know that I really really like his job so I wanted to know more about him and about his brand. Oh yes I already reviewed the HMS Collection early this year …. So click to read. Let’s go ;-) Could you tell us a bit about you and about your story with watches? I grew up in Switzerland not far from Geneva and have always had an interest in industrial design and architecture. After training as a graphic designer, I set up on my own to embark on 3D architectural illustration, and ended up also working for some watchmakers like Richard Mille or Ladoire. It's the founder of this last brand who transmitted me the watchmaking…

Hands-on : Isotope GMT 0°

Hands-on : Isotope GMT 0°

Review
British-based microbrand Isotope is back with the pretty cool GMT 0º watch. This piece is the brand’s third offering. I quite like the idea behind the brand and of course we have already presented the Rider Jumping Hour and the Goutte d’Eau. I had the chance to put my hands-on this new piece and honestly it’s really nice. The reason for the Isotope GMT 0º’s name is that Isotope is a brand based in Britain: on the same meridian as Greenwich, from which the term GMT is derived. This is different The really interesting thing about this watch is that it doesn’t use normal hand as many other GMT watches on the market, but it features a clever Lacrima shaped cut out center dial which is actualy where is display the…

Pynchon Watches Debuts with the Negotium Collection

Pynchon Watches Debuts with the Negotium Collection

Review
Several months ago, I found out about Pynchon Watches on Twitter. At this time I was quite impressed by the pictures posted, and even more because they wanted to start a new adventure with some really special watches. Today they make their debuts in the watch industry with the Negotium Collection. The company has started a Pre-Order campaign on www.pynchon.co.uk to fund the production of the collection but also to fund the next collections, which are really interesting. The watch is using the quartz movement 706B Ronda calibre. Sure yes, I’m not a fan of quartz watches but but this one is interesting because it offers a lot of functionalities. And that makes the whole difference. Indeed, on the Negotium watch you will find the days, date, moon date, weeks,…

Review – Timeless Swiss Watches

Review – Timeless Swiss Watches

Review
Several weeks ago I discovered on the social networks a new Swiss microbrand named Timeless. I’ve been directly captivated by the design of the piece and so I decided to contact Mael Oberkampf, the founder and designer of the brand (an interview will come in the next weeks). After some weeks of conversation he decided to send me the two watches that are part of his first collection. Let’s welcome home the HMS watches :-) I was honestly happy that he accepted my proposal because I was quite intrigued by these pieces. It is quite rare to find a new brand, or micro brand, which has a more or less affordable price, and which has a totally different design than what is already on the market. So yes, for those who…
