Last of 2020 – Rogue Horology Type 1 Diver

Review
Finally we arrive at the end of this very bizarre year ... We must admit that the Covid has turned everything upside down and for us watch journalists the year was really strange ... No trade fairs, no real contact with people, difficulties in trying on watches, and so on. Well, it was the same thing for everyone and even if 2021 arrives I'm not sure there will be any real improvements. It does not matter, Watchisthis will continue to disseminate information about watches under $ 2500, microbrands, but not just that ... And yes it is an announcement, we will also evolve in 2021. And to end this year I wanted to highlight to a project that I really like. This is Rogue Horology from Singapore. Well I’m honest…

Interview Diyu WU – Founder of Sólás Watches

Interview
These last days I had the chance to speak with Diyu Wu, the founder of the new brand Sólás Watches. I'm sure you will like his new watch and the whole story around. So let's jump on the interview :-) Could you tell us a bit about you and about your story with watches? Hi Jonathan, thanks for inviting me to this interview. I was born in China but at a young age moved to the UK for a number of years before coming to Ireland where I grew up. It was in university when I seriously started to enjoy reading, researching and collecting watches. My first watch that I researched and bought was a Sea-Gull M171s (and you’ll see my username on the WatchUSeek forums still refers to that…

Astbury & Kent Stellaris – A tourbillon for all

Astbury & Kent Stellaris – A tourbillon for all

News
Those recent days I was lucky enough to try the new Astbury & Kent Stellaris AK735. This new piece that you can still find on kickstarter is quite a success. Finding a tourbillon for less than 2500$ is not usual and of course you can express some reserves about its quality. To be honest I was quite astonished… That’s so great to see this kind of complication into affordable range without being necessarily of low quality. Indeed, that was completely unthinkable some 10 or 15 years. Of course the movement has been produced in Far East but it’s not cheap and in the contratry it’s a fantatisc value for the price. Founded by Terrence Ray Flores and Tom McCulloch, two certified watch nuts, Astbury and Kent was born of a…

Jubileon is back with the Superellipse Chrono

Jubileon is back with the Superellipse Chrono

News
In september 2017 Jubileon launched their first Kickstarter campaign with the really cool Superellipse. This piece was really classic but with a nice design. You can find it HERE . Now the independent brand from Singapore is back with an evolution of their first watch. This one, that they just launched on Kickstarter (5 April), is a pretty cool chrono. To be honest I’m quite astonished by the level of quality of this piece. Not just by the design, which is really strong, but also by the whole… Including the movement. Because Yes, powering the Superellipse Chrono is the well known ETA 7750 Valjoux movement. You can find this movement in almost every chrono in the market, but rarely at the price of 799$. Well thanks to Kickstarter you will…

The new Moduco watches

The new Moduco watches

News
The name Moduco comes from the abbreviation of « Modern Urban Company ». This new brand is a collaborative vision of two good friends - One who is an American watch designer, the other a Swiss product manager. Together they have a combined experience of more than 10 years in the watch industry. With this first collection they tried to create a watch inspired by the urban environment, modern aesthetics and industrial elements. A strong yet clean timepiece with some nice details. The first one that directly caught our eyes is the 3 dimensional roman numeral XII, that is more thick than the other numerals and on which there is a vertical brushed finishing. This special detail could remind us some skyline that you can find around Central Park in…

From New-York with Love : The Martenero Kerrison

News
Today I decided to write about a new successful Kickstarter project. This one is from Martenero Watches. A young company based in New-York City and founded back in 2014 by John Tarantino. I follow their work from a long time right now and for one main reason – The originality which is one of their core value. Their design philosophy revolves around creating clean and modern designs that stand apart through subtle details and unique colorways. I admit that I’ve been a fan of their Edgemere collection for a long time, so when I heard about this new campaign I was quite excited. And finaly I had the chance to try the new Kerrison during Wind’Up watch show in NYC some weeks ago. This one takes the same design code…

Kickstarter – The Jubileon Superellipse

News
So now this is your last chance to get this pretty cool automatic watch. Indeed, the Kickstarter campaign of Jubileon will end on the 8th September. For the moment, they have not reached their goal ... Well, no matter, they will be able to try again later and I am convinced that it will be a success. Honestly I don’t really understand why this campaign is not a big success right now... Because the watch is affordable, it has good specs and more than this, it has contemporary and classic design suitable for everyday use. I had the chance to try one and seriously the piece is really cool and it fits perfectly any wrist thanks to it size of 41 mm wide and 11.9 mm thick. The case is…

A Swiss watch created for adventurers and explorers – Laventure Marine

A Swiss watch created for adventurers and explorers – Laventure Marine

News
Everyone has an adventurous spirit hidden inside. Some of us have the luck to follow this spirit and fulfil our dreams. Inspired by the books of Jules Verne, Clement Gaud, an independent designer, photographer and filmmaker based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, took his journey to a next level. He wanted to create a watch that inspires adventures and that makes them happen – Laventure Marine.     The first series of Laventure watches are inspired by the diving watches of the 60’s, paying a tribute to the marine world. Laventure Marine was designed in Neuchâtel and manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, in two locations separated by only 18km. The watch comes in 41mm diameter steel case decorated with a game of polished and satin finishes. The beautiful case reminds of…
