The 40’s still amaze us with some treasures

The 40’s still amaze us with some treasures

Vintage
The 1940s are indisputably one of the golden decades for watch design. Benefitting from being preceded by both the hugely influential Bauhaus design school and the Art Deco eras; watches from the 1940s developed an identity of their own, becoming recognisable for their simplicity, style and class. This decade in particular is known for its outstandingly beautiful chronographs, which are highly sought after by many collectors (with increasingly deep pockets). Quite remarkable really, that so many fine watches were conceived in the 1940s; for half of that period Europe was embroiled in the resource-draining effects of World War II, where both materials and of course labour were under stress. Although the fact that neutral Switzerland avoided widespread bombing (unlike Germany and France), probably helped its watchmaking industry weather the storm…

Presenting the Brellum Duobox Classic Havana

Presenting the Brellum Duobox Classic Havana

News
The Duobox Classic Chronometer collection was officially revealed in December 2016 and it was a directly a great success. It's the start of a new school year here, and Sebastien Muller (owner of the brand) decided to propose us a new version of the already iconic Duobox. This time the Duobox adorns the Havana style with brown hues whose finish is done using a sunshine pattern. One may say this colour reminds them of Havana’s cigars, some other may compare it to the rich colour of a whisky or a bourbon. Brellum’s team thinks that it reminds correctly the beautiful colours of Jura’s forest in autumn. For this piece the ingredients are still the same than for the other versions: a high-performance movement, a vintage design, quality finishes, the whole…

A Swiss watch created for adventurers and explorers – Laventure Marine

A Swiss watch created for adventurers and explorers – Laventure Marine

News
Everyone has an adventurous spirit hidden inside. Some of us have the luck to follow this spirit and fulfil our dreams. Inspired by the books of Jules Verne, Clement Gaud, an independent designer, photographer and filmmaker based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, took his journey to a next level. He wanted to create a watch that inspires adventures and that makes them happen – Laventure Marine.     The first series of Laventure watches are inspired by the diving watches of the 60’s, paying a tribute to the marine world. Laventure Marine was designed in Neuchâtel and manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, in two locations separated by only 18km. The watch comes in 41mm diameter steel case decorated with a game of polished and satin finishes. The beautiful case reminds of…

4x4x3 = Horage Multiply – a great watch and a successful Kickstarter campaign

News
We have the great pleasure to present you today a special watch Kickstarter campaign – the Horage Multiply. Horage SA is a brand that has several years of experience in the watch industry and it already had two successful Kickstarter campaigns: here and here. It is important to mention that Horage watches come with an independently developed movement – the modular K1. At this price level, they are the champions between similar micro brands. The number of companies working with in-house or independent movements is limited and the watches are pricey. [caption id="attachment_3266" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Horage Multiply has 48 possible variants. You can decide over movement version, dial and strap.[/caption]   What makes the campaign special is the large variety of choices available. It’s not unusual for a microbrand to present their entire collection, but…

The passion for a special car expressed in a special watch – the Tenera Watches

News
We always said that the cars and the watches go perfect together: an expression of power, design and engineering. It is often met that fans of cars and car races end up in designing a watch that reflects their love for the motor world. In this case, Ron de Jong from Valkenburg - Netherlands has a real passion for Lancia Delta Integrale Evo. He is impressed not only by the car itself but also by the symbol that it represents. This car was a technical achievement, ahead of her time with an impressive racing and wins portfolio. The Delta Integrale was the inspiration source for his watch – the Tenera. [caption id="attachment_3168" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Tenera watch is a great match to the legendary Lancia Delta Integrale Evo[/caption] The entire watch…

Watch I Love : Pangaea Day Date by Meistersinger

Watch I Love : Pangaea Day Date by Meistersinger

Opinion
In the Westphalian city of Münster, Germany, there is a small watch manufacturer - MeisterSinger. They are best known for their single-hand watches which are based on the idea of the very old watches with only one hand and antique solar watches. From the MeisterSinger Collection, I really like the Pangaea Day/Date. These watches have not only the charm of the single hand pieces but they are also really practical thanks to the day and date display. My favourite one from the Pangaea Collection is the reference PDD908 with a sunburst blue dial. I love the whole dial of this one with its white printed indexes and Arabic numerals. It really gives a nice contrast and a perfect visibility of all the informations. Interesting thing about this piece is that the date ring turns clockwise and the day…

A tribute to a horological icon – Hamilton Intra-matic 68 Autochrono

A tribute to a horological icon – Hamilton Intra-matic 68 Autochrono

News
In the last years, an entire wave of vintage-looking watches or re-editions of some iconic timepieces hit the market. As for example we have the Marloe Lomond Chronoscope or the Straton Syncro, both reviewed by Watchisthis?!. From the “old” brands, we can remember the Ball Engineer II Genesis, released at their 125 years brand anniversary. The list is long and it doesn’t make sense to enumerate all. We are just pleased to see there is a public for all new or old designs. Hamilton, with a history started in 1892, decided to bring on the market again a beautiful chronograph released in the ‘60s – the Chrono-matic. This watch is now a collector’s piece. Back then, the first version was a panda dial with white background and black chronograph sub-dials.…
