We always said that the cars and the watches go perfect together: an expression of power, design and engineering. It is often met that fans of cars and car races end up in designing a watch that reflects their love for the motor world. In this case, Ron de Jong from Valkenburg – Netherlands has a real passion for Lancia Delta Integrale Evo. He is impressed not only by the car itself but also by the symbol that it represents. This car was a technical achievement, ahead of her time with an impressive racing and wins portfolio. The Delta Integrale was the inspiration source for his watch – the Tenera.
The entire watch transpires automotive enthusiasm. The Tenera watch comes in a steel case with a diameter of 43 mm with a shape inspired by the Lancia Delta body style with bold masculine lines. The combination of brushed and polished surfaces emphasises the ‘automobilistic’ feeling that we get by looking at this timepiece.
The bezel with deep engravings resembles the front bumper air intakes of the famous car, while the highly polished crown has the shape of the Lancia logo – a nice touch. The back case with see-through sapphire crystal is designed after the car’s iconic rims. This reveals the automatic movement with a small red brake calliper in the rotor just how it is visible on the real car brakes. A lovely idea that increases the overall watch impact.
The Tenera dial is one of the nicest rev-meter inspired design. Using a sandwich dial, the watch replicates the tachometer display of the Delta Evoluzione. The colour scheme is the same as the car’s panel instrumentation and the missing info between 12 and 3 o’clock removes any monotony. The dial fits the brand name, the “Automatic” and the proud “Swiss Made” at the lowest point of the dial. A beautiful detail is the indexes in red for the 47 to 60 seconds/minutes indication, recalling the red zone of the tachymeter.
The hands are simply baton shaped with luminescent insertion for a great night visibility.
The watch is powered by the well-known and robust ETA2824-2. The calibre is a classic 11½ lines with 25.60mm diameter and a height of 4.6mm. The automatic movement with ball bearing bespoke rotor has 25 jewels, a heart beating at 4HZ or 28800vph, a regulator system ETACHRON and regulator corrector that makes it very precise. As another important feature is the stop second device that helps a precise setting of the time. The date module is removed for the Tenera watches since it would have disrupted the rev-dial look. This was a hard decision, but a good one in the end, keeping the dial as close as possible to the original Lancia design.
What is important to know is that the Tenera watch is limited edition of 10 pieces, from which five are already sold. At €950 euro with free shipping, the watch is a must have for any Lancia Delta lover.
