Here we like watches of course but we also love beautiful stories, and Lebois&Co is one of them.
Let’s have a look to this story before talking about their new release.
The original brand was founded in 1934 by French watch manufacturer Raymond Dodane, who represents the third generation of the Dodane watchmaker family. In 1972 and almost 40 years after it was created, Lebois & Co ceased trading and stoped producing watches and so, the brand ceased to exist.
Early 2014 Tom & Eveline van Wijlick came across a picture of a beautiful vintage watch, a Lebois & Co Chronograph which was sold at an auction by Christie’s. They printed the picture of this watch and sticked it to their fridge. Being struck by the beauty of this timepiece they started their research of this unfamiliar brand and their former owners.
Upon the approval of the Dodane family the brand is resurrected, exactly eighty years after the original company was founded. And now their mission is exactly the same that had Raymond Dodane – To create aesthetic Luxury Swiss timepieces.
Of course the revival of the brand was not like some others brands revival. With Lebois&Co you don’t have a multinational who bought the right of the name, put a team of 15 persons « at least » and spent thousands and thousands of dollars. No here you have husband and wife who like watches and who want to propose an affordable luxury timepiece. Not easy you’ll say and mostly in the current market. So how to do ? It seems that kickstarter is today the best way to try.
For the record, note that Lebois&Co has already succeeded on this platform with two timepieces. The first one with a classical silver dial and then a really nice one with a striking blue dial.
Now the « young » brand is back to the crowdfunding system in order to raise funds for the 3rd Re- launch Edition of their Avantgarde Date Watch.
This time the watch comes with a nice black dial, but more than that, it has a new movement. These two new things make this watch their finest and most accurate watch yet!
With a 40 x 10,5 mm case, which is almost full polished, the watch is perfectly sized for someone who likes classical watches. It features a midnight black dial, on which you’ll find facetted and polished hand applied indexes, silver hour and minute hands with luminescent material and red seconds. This multi-layered dial catches the sun perfectly and allows you to play with it.
For the final version of the Avantgarde watch Lebois&Co decided to use a Top Grade Swiss-Made Sellita SW200-1. This movement, that you can see through a sapphire crystal, is decorated with Geneva stripes (Côtes de Genève), perlage, diamant cutting and has blue screws. It is adjusted in 5 positions and will run extremely accurate with an average rate of +/-4 seconds/day.
The Lebois & Co Avantgarde Date 3rd Re-Launch Edition will be delivered with two genuine Buffalo leather straps; brown (cognac) and black with matching stitching, with a steel folding clasp. The retail price, once the campaign is over, will be Euro 1,800. But if you choose to go on Kickstarter, the price will be only Euro 975 (limited to 100 pieces).
The watch is well balanced and can seriously compete with some of the big brands out there when it comes to finish and quality.
“This new edition will not only complete our collection of three Re-launch Editions, but it also raises the bar for future models and strengthens the value proposition of our products,” added Tom Van Wijlick.
So now we can just wait to see what will be their next release.
