Interesting move for Auguste Reymond

Interesting move for Auguste Reymond

News
As far as I know Kickstarter was always intended for start-ups but now Swiss brand Auguste Reymond decided to jump on it. That’s quite fun as I had this discussion with several young brands during Baselworld 2017. The discussion were always on the topic of sales and extra visibility. To be honest I think that even for established brands (young or not), Kickstarter could be a good lever of development. This can allow to probe the market in relation to a new product, to reach a wider audience and often people who do not know the brand yet, but also to be present, thanks to this platform, in markets where they are not at the moment. And of course, we see it here with this campaign of Auguste Reymond, it…

Damien Koch – Owner and Designer of HOF Watches

Damien Koch – Owner and Designer of HOF Watches

News
We talked with Damien Koch – Owner and Designer of HOF Watches some months ago. We really like what he is doing with his brand. With passion as his fuel, Damien is a rising star in the independent horology scene. We were fortunate enough to sit with him and talk about his brand. He said to us things like « It took two and a half years to achieve the SEASHORE, and when you look at it, at the first glance, you find it “simple” and efficient. » It is quite extraordinary to note that Damien Koch, owner of HOF watches, is an independent watchmaker who works alone and who designed the watch, made the plans, managed the manufacturing of the parts, and finally assembles it all by himself. Damien loves a…

A glimpse in the future with Longines V.H.P

A glimpse in the future with Longines V.H.P

News
Progress is inevitable and one way or another it will take you with it like an ocean wave. So why not embrace it? The same thing applies to the horological parts of our lives. Overall, the progress is there (I am not referring to the classic watchmaking or to the Haute Horlogerie manual techniques): from the first quartz watch the Seiko Astron, more than 40 years ago, till the actual quartz watch is a huge technological advance that cannot be stopped. In the light of progress, Longines released on the 9th March 2017 a new quartz watches line - the V.H.P. (Very High Precision): keeping the Longines signature of elegance, a new type of movement is refining the evolution of the quartz watches, taking it to a new level. This…

Introducing the Isotope Rider Jumping-Hour

Introducing the Isotope Rider Jumping-Hour

News
A jumping hour watch for less than 2500$... Seriously is it possible ? Apparently yes and it comes from Isotope Watch. If you’re not familiar with the brand you have to know that it is run by North London based entrepreneur Jose Mendes Miranda. It was created in November 2015 but the idea came in mind 5 years ago. It’s not the first attempt of Jose because well before Isotope it had already created 2 brands which unfortunately did not have the success that he hoped. The interesting part of the story is that he learned how to create a movement from scratch… and when you know how complicated it is to assemble and disassemble a movement and to create a new one, we can just congratulate him. Today he…

Introducing the Edox Les Bemonts Shade of Time

Introducing the Edox Les Bemonts Shade of Time

News
Swiss watch brand Edox introduces a striking addition to its Les Bemonts collection - The Les Bemonts Automatic Shade of Time. Note that “Les Bémonts” is a pictoresque forest situated just a few meters from the EDOX factory, and that’s why the brand decided to use this name. The timepiece collection features classical design with pure and timeless lines and they are all equipped with Swiss movements; from the automatic chronograph to Ultra Slim quartz movement. The brand created in the 1884 by Christian Ruefli-Flury in Biel presents today a new addition to this collection. But did you know that in 1998 Edox engineers and watchmakers developed the world’s slimmest calendar watch, named “Les Bémonts Ultra Slim” collection ? The movement of this piece had a thickness of only 1.4…

Tissot Le Locle Automatic Cosc

Tissot Le Locle Automatic Cosc

News
Tissot is part of the SWATCH Group since 1983 and it has a history that goes back to 1853. The brand is based in the Swiss city of Le Locle, in the Neuchâtel area of the Jura Mountains. An important virtue of Tissot is that they produce mechanical watches with COSC chronometrie certification. The “Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres” is the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute and is responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland. Many watchmakers and watch brands use the COSC certification as an assurance for the quality of their watches. This is the case of the Tissot Le Locle Automatic Chronometre Ref. T0064083605700. It's sure that this piece is not a novelty but despite its age it always remains interesting. Let's have a…

2016….what a year!

2016….what a year!

News
The end of the year is always a natural moment to look back and take in what the years have brought. 2016 was in many ways a very dynamic year! It was a year in which the smart watch took a beating, yet at the same time also showed that it was here to stay. It matured, and while Fitbit took over Pebble, we saw microbrands introducing smart watches of their own, filling voids and niches. For 2017 we will probably see more of this, and as the technology becomes more accessible for smaller companies, I suspect that the days of the quartz movement are doomed. 2016 was also the year in which microbrands, in general, showed that they carry a punch! The overall quality is now at a very…

Tissot Heritage 1936 Mechanical: Affordable Vintage Homage

Tissot Heritage 1936 Mechanical: Affordable Vintage Homage

News
Tissot has a long-standing tradition of offering affordable, value for money watches. They combine this with a very long and rich history. The result are watches like the Heritage 1936, a mechanical watch made with modern technology yet containing an old soul. The 1930's was a time when people finally made the full transition from pocket watch to a wristwatch. The designs still had strong ties with the pocket watch, often with slim wire lugs mounted on the cases to accommodate the straps. This is exactly what Tissot has done as well for the 1936. It makes the watch look period correct, but don't expect a spring bar hidden under the strap, because this Tissot has fixed bars! Based on a pocket watch also means that the 1936 is a…

Humbert-Droz, The Archetype of French know-how

Humbert-Droz, The Archetype of French know-how

News
When shopping for a watch, many of us will praise the Swiss products, but if you want to be different, you might want to go the French way! Taking advantage of this opportunity, the French manufacture Reparalux created its own brand: Humbert-Droz. Reparalux was established by Marcel Humbert-Droz in Besançon, the heart of French watchmaking, 60 years ago. The core business of the company lies in repairing and assembling watches for prestigious watchmakers.
Today, three generations work in the business, and they have created their first watch, the HD1. The latest has been totally created in Besançon, by great-grandson Julien, graduated from Métiers d’Arts and manager of the workshop since 2013. With a diameter of 41mm, bold numerals, large hands and an oversized crown protection, it is a substantial watch.…
